I am new here and thought I would share some stuff.

I read about Sheriff Joe and his way of doing things IMHO is very good. People who have to work hard labor while in jail will think twice before committing another crime.

The only problem people have with him is the fact that he treats criminals how they deserve to be treated. The problem with our country is that there are not more like Sheriff Joe out there proving that jail is not a free ride.

Think about it when someone goes to jail they are usually given three meals a place to sleep TV and other comforts all at us the taxpayers expense. Now given that why would a criminal want to stay out of jail.

Do y'all want your taxpayer dollars to be spent to give criminals comforts that you yourself may not be able to afford? I surely don't.

The problem with society today is all the criminal rights groups out there. Me personally I think a criminal should have no rights.

The criminal justice system has gotten too soft IMHO. When someone can kill their child and walk free because there was not enough evidence to prove guilt something is wrong.

What about those who are incarcerated waiting to go to court that have yet to be found guilty of any crime?

What ever happened to innocent till proven guilty?

Prisons house SENTENCED OFFENDERS and is where hard labor programs belong if they even have a place in a democratic society.

Jails house PRE-SENTENCED prisoners awaiting trial primarily, and the only sentenced prisoners are generally petty offenders. Labor programs do not belong in jails.

I would hate to think that an innocent person could get picked up (Happened before) on a bogus charge (frequently in Maricopa county) and be forced to work at hard labor.

Get a clue

Mad

jmcinvale, you like the way joe does things? You like the over 6000 pending lawsuits he has? You like the fact that he doesn't serve warrants? You like the fact that he exceptionally clears murders rather than actually solving them? You like the fact he ignores sexual abuse cases? You like the fact that pre-trial detainees die in jail due to lack of proper medical care? You like the fact that if you have black hair, brown eyes, stand 5'9" and weigh 145 lbs. you're going to be arrested for being an illegal, but if you are an illegal European or Asian you won't be questioned?

If so, I suggest you support joe for re-election. Just ignore the cost of all his lawsuits and publicity stunts. Forget about the mis-use of public funds. You don't need to worry about what the Department of Justice said about him.

Or do you?

Pre-sentenced prisoners inside the prison awaiting trial, are generally the only prisoners sentenced criminals. Does not belong to the prison labor program.

arigatou, pre-sentenced inmates in AZ are not in prisons! They are in jails. Inmates can serve a sentence up to one year in a County Jail. Any longer sentence requires they be transfered to a State Prison providing there is space available. Working inmates in Maricopa County jails are required to be fully sentenced to County Jail time.
